Matayoshi Kobudo is an Okinawan weapons art formed by the Matayoshi family, Shinko Matayoshi and his son Shinpo Matayoshi, in the early 20th century.
This system includes over 15 traditional weapons codified in over 30 kata. The core weapons are the bo, sai, tuifa and nunchaku. Other weapons include boat oar, nunti (spear), kuwa (hoe), kama, sansetsu-kon, jo and suruchin.
Practice of traditional weapons enhances body mechanics, dexterity, upper body strength and focus. More than that, it just plain fun.
Training in this art consists of the practice of basic techniques, kata and extensive partner practice.
Matayoshi Kobudo classes are offered as private lessons currently. Group classes are forming soon.
